Your estimate

Enter measurements, then calculate.

Planning estimate only. Confirm packaging, coverage, site conditions, and local building requirements before purchasing.

How to measure

Measure each surface at least twice. Use the longest dimension when walls or floors are not perfectly square, and subtract openings only when they are large enough to materially affect the order.

Formula

Boxes = surface area × (1 + waste) ÷ coverage per box

Worked example

For a typical flooring project, enter the measured dimensions, select the unit system, add 10% waste and enter the supplier's current unit price. The calculator rounds purchasing units up where appropriate.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing metric and imperial measurements
  • Ignoring cuts, breakage or pattern matching
  • Using nominal package coverage without checking the manufacturer
  • Rounding down the final purchase quantity

Frequently asked questions

How much waste should I add?

Use 5–10% for simple layouts and 10–15% for diagonal patterns, complex rooms or fragile materials.

Does this replace a contractor quote?

No. It is a planning estimate; site conditions and product specifications can change the final requirement.
