Metric versus imperial concrete calculations
Concrete is fundamentally a volume calculation: length × width × depth. Metric measurements produce cubic metres, while US customary measurements are commonly ordered in cubic yards.
Convert every dimension into the same unit before multiplying. A frequent error is entering slab depth in centimetres or inches as though it were metres or feet. The calculator handles that conversion automatically.
Concrete orders should include an allowance for uneven excavation, spillage and variation in formwork. Confirm minimum order sizes and delivery tolerances with the supplier.
